Coach James Franklin Strategizes for DTTC Memorial Invitational
Before the 2024 trainking camp kicks off, Coach James Franklin of Penn State football has shifted his strategic playbook to the greens as he speaks about the DTTC Memorial Invitational featuring the Dick Touchers and Thunder Cunts. Employing his trademark coaching vernacular, Franklin outlined his approach, likening golf dynamics to football fundamentals.
"In this Invitational, it's about executing effectively in Offense, Defense, and Special Teams," Franklin explained. "Offensively, it's akin to launching those tee shots with precision and power, setting the tone early on holes like 1, 10, and 18. Establishing a strong start is pivotal."
Defensively, Franklin stressed the importance of converting putts. "Every stroke on the green mirrors a defensive stand – we must capitalize on critical holes such as 16, 17, and 18, ensuring we secure those crucial putts under pressure."
Special Teams, in Franklin's golfing analogy, represented the art of getting Up and Down. "The par 3 holes 5, 7, 12, and 17 demand our special teams prowess, where we aim for decisive saves and birdie opportunities," he remarked. "However, the tournament's pivotal moments lie in the middle four holes – 8, 9, 10, and 11 – analogous to football's two-minute drills. These segments can swing momentum and dictate the ultimate outcome. It's about maintaining focus, making informed decisions, and finishing strong throughout these critical stretches."
Coach Franklin's adaptation of football strategies to the golf course underscores his commitment to meticulous planning and tactical precision, preparing his team for a challenging and strategic tournament ahead.
